Few things you should know about the Indian market before you startup or work in a startup

1. Indians would love to pay for status over convenience. If you are building something make sure it is helping the consumer to send a signal of higher status in the society.

2. It's super hard to make people pay for subscriptions unless it's entertainment. The reason is people don't value time yet in our country.

3. We operate in a low-trust society, Building trust isn't that easy, it takes time and familiarity. currency of growth is trust.

4. The business of opportunities will be a hit compared to a business of spending. I.e Most people don't make good bucks, purchasing power is weaker, hence people look out for freelancing gigs, investments.

   On a light note: one of the main reasons why MLM is a success and people trust it in spite of many fraud stories is because it gives opportunities.

5. We are a highly diverse country with different cultures, values, beliefs, and languages. whatever you build it should be a neutral platform for people. I.e English is a neutral language, WhatsApp is a neutral messaging app. Many neutral platforms aren't owned by Indians.

6. Your business or content only becomes viral if it is has a "relatable" problem

7. In India, there are many problems which one will you pursue? check the frequency of the problem, the greater the frequency, the stronger the problem.

8. Many people don't understand complicated English words in our country. Use basic words which are highly familiar that will help in virality. I.e When we were talking to our initial customers, they didn't understand what's payroll or inventory.

9. If you want to build something for India, it's super important for you to be a founder who loves to increase the market size not get a pie of market size. I.e

   I.e @Nithin0dha and @nikhilkamathcio from Zerodha have been increasing the market size from Day 1.
